PrimeXM MetaTrader 4 Server suffered an attack causing more than 20 forex brokers to experience considerable disruption in their services including up to 30 seconds delays.
This experience revealed serious flaws in MT4 platform and caused serious delays during the most traded hours in the forex market – one of the worst events in year so far.
Among the reported disruptions PrimeXM customers complained about long delays, frozen quotes, inability of MetaTrader 4 to synchronize data, memory fluctuations in the range of 300MB/second during the most active EUR/USD rally in more than a year. The attack came from a single client account exploiting the vulnerability of the whole system. Once the problem was identified, PrimeXM disabled the account responsible for the event and the service was restored to normal.
PrimeXM has shared with MetaQuotes the details of how the attack started and carried out. At the moment these details are concealed from public eyes.
